Hey. Ihave some funny noise comeing from my clutch side on my 99 yz 125. It sounds as much as I can tell like its comeing from the clutch. The basket is wobbly and not tight on the shaft. But the center part where the big nut goes is tight its only the basket thats wobbly. Is it supposed to be good and tight? If so then Id bet the noise is from all the gears misalining and making the noise but im not shure any suggestions? and what should I replace the spacer and bearing? And probly the basket as well but I hope not lol? all Ideas welcomed!!!

BUy The BOOK
Buy the shop manual or clymer

anything with gears should be nice and tight. Look at the oil, is it the same color as ground up aluminum or is is golden brown?

Take the basket off and look for wear behind it.

oh and buy the book too.

But very cool of you that you noticed a noise and looked for a problem before the problem caused catistrophic engine failue

Yea I have had the basket off I bought it used and had to fix some shifting problems someone elts messed up and had to file the grooves off the ears on the basket. I have a hinson basket on the way an Im going to put a new clutch kit in but, the basket bearing is loose on the sleeve. The sleeve is tight on the input shaft and the input shaft is tight in the motor. It just made me wonder since the basket was the only thing loose, if maybe the basket had to have a little play to work the clutch right but, like popeye said anything with gears should be tight to keep the gears running true so id bet money that the bearing is shot. The fulid was a worn out color who knows when it was changed b4 but I replaced it with some 7th gear tranny fluid for 2 strokes, its red in color and I dont see anyone talking about it on here but is this a good thing to use or shoud I just stick with regular yamaha motor oil? Im going to go ahead and put a new bearing and sleeve on to be shure.I am for shure going to get a manual but which one is the best to have for tech and motor specs and showing diagrams and all the rebuild stuff?

I think you are on the right track, the basket should not wobble and if the old one was filed that will lead to the clutch plates causing additional wear on the basket.
It needed to be replaced.

The 7th gear oil, I have not used but after doing some research on it it should do as well or better than Yamalube.
