going to the track....

The weather is only getting better in Arizona around this time and I am finally able to put full days of riding in without feeling as if i just rode my bike to the equator. The weather was beautiful today and next week I have a race so I figured I would go and get some practice in.

The day started at 6:30 this morning when I woke up. Fed the dogs, loaded the truck up and was off to the track, of course after I posted on DR. Got to the track at about 7:30am and was already foaming at the mouth when I arrived. Figured there would not be that many people there today but it was a good turn out and had quite a few people to race with.

I recently bought a new truck and got rid of my car so I could eventually get a hauler and loading/unloading has been a treat. My new truck has an 8ft bed and loading everything we need for a day of riding is much easier now than it was before, so that definitely was another plus for the day.

As soon as we arrived, I was unloading the bikes within minutes and still foaming from the mouth, almost salivating because the track looked like a piece of filet mignon waiting to be munched on. Bikes down, riding gear on and Sarah and I were ready to take the first few laps. I let her go before me for about two football fields then warmed up and took off. The track at this time in the morning is usually perfect and I had a grin ear to ear just making my own lines and getting the bike under me for the first lap, I actually forgot I was even with Sarah for a moment, but we won't tell her that.

I have been really trying to focus on technique the last dew months and I really feel as if it is starting to pay of. My biggest issue is that I have not been trusting my bike enough to ride it hard and today I let that trust issue go and that led to my best day at the track. I let everything go today and my only goal was to find someone in front of me and catch them, no matter the color of plate they had. Every time I pushed the bike harder it was still there with me on it and this helped me gain confidence throughout the day. Jumps become smaller and easier, berms were eaten up by the new Dunlop MX-51, (which for the record is the best tire I have run so far) and my passing people in front of me was turning to this fun challenge.

Overall the day was great, weather was perfect, Sarah rode great, the bike is running very well, and I got a chance to suck it up and push myself today. Today was one of those days that makes you realize why you love this sport so much and and at the same time how important it is to bond with your machine.

Here are some of pics from the day and thanks for reading. I will be doing a write up of the tire, new crank, v-force and sprocket change here soon.

Oh yeah, thanks for the DR sticker Karel, the truck loves it.

Nice truck. Extended cab and an 8 ft bed!

The tracks around here don't open until 10 and most of the time you can't get on the track until 10:30.  It's probably hot out there so they open early?

Nice pics Mike.  Glad you and Sarah had a good time.
