SAND...keeping it out of my throttle tube....

I am sure I am not the first with this problem.....

I put a set of Moose bark busters on my CRF, and they work fine.
The problem I have is now that the end of the throttle tube is
opened up, and sand can enter the tube. I do regular maint./cleaning,
but all I have to do now is drop it once in the sand
and I have to take the tube off to clean the sand out.

Is there some trick you guys use, or is more
maintenance the price of having wrap around guards?

Many Thanks.....

Either more maintenance or don't fall. I've ridden in FL, and not falling in that sand is a tough call. A friend of mine uses a sealed bearing as a spacer between the handguard bar and the end of the bar. If you could find one (skateboard shop perhaps?), you could start with a new grip and throttle tube. Drill the end of the grip and tube carefully. Don't cut the end of the grip and tube off. The center of the bearing would need to bottom out on the part of the handguard that is in the handlebar. Seal the grip to the outer part of the bearing. That would keep the junk out of there.

Look at the DR Dirt, about putting foam in your handlebars, im sure you could get the foam to seal that up around the bark busters..try that and see what happens..only thing is if it doesnt work im not sure how you can get that foam out..if you try and it works let me know

Foam won't work because it will either prevent the throttle from twisting, or once you do twist the throttle, the seal will be broken.

The way Karel stated is about the only way.
