I thought the greenies stopped the race from going completely through.

We have made the trip from Barstow to Stateline several times
It's very a fun trip....but it's difficult to navigate without GPS and someone who's done it...

So you don't need a dual sport?

you do for the LA-Barstow-Vegas ride....it's a sanctioned ride and needs to be dual sported.
We do it on our own...with our own maps and trails...just a couple of us. No big event.

It is easier with a dual sport, Barstow to state line can be done a variety of ways, You are supposed to have a dual sport, when crossing any BLM land. That includes the Mojave preserve. there is a power line road that goes all the way, not very difficult and in places downright boring. There is other power line roads tha can be strung together with old road like the mojave road , the Mojave river, Afton Canyon, and so on, get yourself a AAA map of Sanbernadino county. Most of the legal roads that you want to use are on there. Then try to get someone to chase for you, makes it easier, you can penetrate further into the triangle and you don'y have to carry as much stuff. Also good for problems like broken bikes crashes, people getting tired ETC.

Thanks, it's really too bad we live in such a restrictive country. You use to be able to just hop on and ride, I guess thats why Mexico is appealing. Leaving for the baja 1000 next Thursday, can't wait.
