Can anyone that has riden, owened, or owns one of these bikes (530 XC-W(R) or 530 EXC-R) tell me what you think of it? Also what is the difference between them, MX vs. Trail?

my friend owns one here, and i've ridden it and also raced it against my 520. we have motard wheels here so i never went offroading. it's a lovely bike, completely different from the older EXC's. But it's not faster, i've raced it in a quarter mile and it could not keep up with my 520.

I own the 530 exc-r 08 I like the bike. It is great if you do alot of upgrades to them like pipe jet kit bigger battery change the gearing headlight turn signals in the rear will melt from the heat of the stock pipe. There has been some problems with the carb and and some oring seals in the motor. ktm flew out a mechanic to fix my bike they sold me a new bike that would not start wow. They would not even give me a new bike well I still look cool pushing it around my hood. KTM needs to improve their customer service they said to give me a new bike we be a big hassel with all the paper work through DMV I feel a customer that buys a new bike that wont run is a big hassel lazy ass fools they also said they will send me new plastics cause mine were all scratched up never came lame. If i was you wait for the 09 models Honda will have to make somthing sick I can feel it Honda's run long and hard oh yeah they start when you buy them. I have 200 miles on it now and oil is leaking out the case this will be the fifth time in the shop KTM WAKE UP FOOLS!!!!

A lot of that is your dealers fault, they should of made sure that the bike worked fine before they sold it to you.

Dude dont you think I know that. It's not the dealers fault that ktm sold them 12 batteries that were bad or a bad carb or the stock pipe melting the turn signal or a spun gear on the cam the dealer did not design the bike ktm did. When I went in their to pick my bike up their were three other 530's in the shop all with problems. KTM was going to fly out a mechanic to put on exsperimental carb they said they only made ten I dont want to be a test dummy they should of done this before production the dealer has been great through all this KTM needs to learn customer relations 101 D D D!

I think this is bull what KTM is doing. I also bought a 08  530 exc I bought the titanium full exhaust, sprockets, chain, stabilizer, black plastics, bigger calipers, rotors, rims, moto tires,+++ all the other little things.. I figured I'd break the bike in when it was stock, so the first day I get it home, it will not start. First let me say I have been riding my whole life and have 4 other nice bikes. I work on all my own stuff and can pretty much do any thing on them. Well I end up kicking the beast to get it started which is so bad that you about break your leg. Rode it for a couple of weeks in the woods and street. Ended up pushing it out of woods at least 3 times and had to call for ride on street once. Brought it into shop had all goodies put on convinced by the dealer that it needed to breath and that it had  carb issues. We put all the parts on thinking this would help the bike. Went on a camping trip, broke down all weekend. Back to shop. ect. ect ect. Since then the dealer has had my bike for 6 months of the year I've owned it and the bike has had 2 cams, new carb, 4 headlights, charging system and a *** load of my time. The dealer I am working with is a great guy and fixing the bike, BUT how much inconvenience should we have to go through. KTM needs to take care of their PROBLEMS.....They should have payed there own guys to test the bikes instead of us .....

I bought a KTM 530 EXC-R in March of 08.  My dealer Neeley's in SC rocks.  However, KTM needs to work on this one.  The bike never started well, doesn't idle, takes off in first gear at 35 mph with no throttle (yes, I checked the throttle cable), and I about tore my knee to shreds this weekend trying to kick it to get it to start.  I wonder if KTM will pay for my knee surgery?
Neeley's said they have had cam issues so I am bringing it in.  I hope I don't have to pay for its apparent manufacturer's defect.
Does anyone have any good stories about this bike?

sorry you guys have all had trouble.i bought my 530 exc-r 08 model in may of 08 here in new hampshire us.i currently have 3400 miles on the bike. and about 90 hours i beleive(i might be off 15 hrs)anyway i have done nothing but 7 or 8 oil changes cleaned the airfilter(replaced once)had the valves checked at 1200 miles and replaced tires.i did rejet and desmog it but no oil problems and no bad starts or no starts.the only time i found it would not start was the day i left the dealer i had gone to my buddys and showed him(he has a 07 450)and it wouldnt start when i wanted to leave.(beleived to be because the bike was new)ever since then i beat the crap out of it.ive got my front tire lock out and i run full knobbie dunlop tires.until 3000 miles i had stock gearing and bike went 122.wow i changed my pants when i got home.surprisingly not too shaky but i wont do that again.so i am surprised with my purchase and love the bike.it takes a beatin and keeps on tickin.love ktms sorry or you who have had trouble.ride fast ride hard always ride safe RIP JEFF!

I thought I was the only one pushing my 08 530 around. Lets see it wouldnt start out of the box. The motor blew at 700 miles. Missed 3 months of the summer riding season. KTM fixed both of these problems. I pushed it out of the woods today again because the transmission is screwed up. Meanwhile the honda's are passing me by. Its frustrating to no end.

WOW!!! All this negative talk..I had a 08 530xcwr that thing was great..i did all the reg. mods. that we think we need to do, the bike ran great, before and after the assy.were added... I now have 2010 530xcw?  this one comes with most of the stuff we put on.. cept a power flow system and exhaust.. the graphics were kinda too much, so i tossed em.they reminded me of tye dye and bob marley.. let`s stick with somthing cool instead of that crap..i put all black plastic on, then ordered the ktm orange chrome graphics..kinda ok..but i`ll toss them soon too.... the batteries sucked on both bikes,..but this one rips too..i love my ktm. can`t wait for the 2011`s to get here. haha...ride on...

I just got a 2009 530 exc-r - took the mirrors and funny donkie lights off the rear and have been having a blast so far... bike is still on it's first tank of gas. I still have all the emissions crap on it and have not touched the exaust system ..yet

I avoided the "2010" model with the Red Bull Graffics (FOR THE exc-r.. NOT the xcw) after I called a gentleman back east who basically told me these Chapion Editions are left over 2009 models with a few "goodies" that KTM makes... the real 2010 are not out yet... good deal on the 09'.. I got it 9799 out the door with the extended 4 year warrenty.

Lot's a hatin' - my experiance has been different so far. I bought the bike from Chapparal here in San Bernardino from Doug P.

I hear the bike gets to its full burlynes (a word?) after the emissions are gone.. any comments?

I rode my Buddies 530 XCW, I thought it was great, I only rode it for an hour, I was a very capable rock stomper had bery good power all the way through, the only thing I did not like was the harshness of the suspension and the seat was like a carved out 4x4. Two things that I feel were easily fixed,
But like I said I only rode it for a couple of hours doing hill climbs and black diamond stuff in the Rands.
