The folks at Big Sky will be hosting a 2nd year of racing on their ski runs. I had a blast this year, and plan on racing it again in August. Anyone else game?

It's a long swim for me to get there though....
Jokes aside, I enjoyed you thread on this last year and if I was in the neighbourhood I'd be in like a rat up a drainpipe.

From Joe:
*For Immediate Release*
Big Sky Resort and Klim USA to host 2nd annual hare scramble race August 21-22, 2010
After a successful inaugural race at Big Sky Resort in Sept of 2009, the Big Sky XC will be running again in 2010.
The Big Sky XC presented by Klim is an off-road motorcycle race held on the ski slopes of Big Sky Resort, located just north of Yellowstone National Park. The race weekend was originally designed with a unique balance between family friendly racing for amateur racers and an expert course built to challenge the country’s best off-road racers. 2010 will continue to build on that platform.
Lone Peak Racing ,LLC is excited to have the Big Sky XC be apart of the five race AMA Western Hare Scrambles Championship Series. With racing starting up Feb 13th in Paicines, CA and finishing in November at the famed Hangtown facility, LPR believes the scaled back and spread out schedule is perfectly set up to allow strong racer participation. “A 5 race series is a lot more manageable than an 8 or 9 race series as our country continues down the long road towards economic recovery,” says Jamey Kabisch, the Big Sky XC race manager. “I believe racers will really welcome an abbreviated series with open arms, as it makes competing for an AMA series championship easier on the pocketbook.”
Also new for the Big Sky XC is the Dirtwise riding school by Shane Watts, which will be held on the Thursday/ Friday before the race weekend. At the time of this release, it is also Mr. Watts’s intent to line up on Sunday to compete in the pro class. “Having Shane not only hold one of his popular rider clinics, but also participate in the racing aligns perfectly with our goal to make the Big Sky XC a premier national race,” adds Joe Miler, LPR’s marketing manager. “Our event falls on an off weekend for many of the country’s top off-road racing series, so we hope Shane’s involvement will motivate other top racers to check out the Big Sky XC.”
For companies interested in event sponsorship opportunities, contact Joe Miller at 406-581-3491. Call Jamey Kabisch, 406-233-0478 for race information. Additional information, pre-registration forms as well as the entire WHS schedule can be found at: www.bigskyxc.com.
BIG SKY RESORT is located in Southwest Montana 18 miles from Yellowstone National Park, in the winter it features the Biggest Skiing in America with over 5,500 acres of skiable terrain with an interconnect with Moonlight Basin. In the summer, Big Sky features Montana’s Best Mountain Meetings with over 55,000 square feet of meeting space and over 750 lodging units. www.bigskyresort.com
Klim USA prides itself in designing the most advanced technical riding gear for today’s aggressive riders. Klim uses only the best and most innovative materials along with the latest technology in it’s products; lighter, faster, stronger. www.klimusa.com

Thank you Rocky! The B course was indeed very tight, and challenging, so as guys were getting tired most of them pulled over when you came up on them. The most frustrating part of the race for me was the 1st lap when we came to the switchbacks and I had to sit about 15 minutes waiting for the bottleneck to clear. Hey Jamey, if you are reading this, will you guys consider bypassing the switchbacks for the 1st lap, then go ahead and reroute us back into them on the 2nd and subsequent laps??? Hi pop, this is an individual hare scrambles race. The race lasts 2 hours. The classes are broken down really well IMO. The one downside is that us older guys have to start near the last wave, so we catch up to and have to pass a lot of the other B class riders. The upside is that you get lots of riders to bang bars with!

Paul,
Year one was as much a learning experience for us as it was enjoyable. The bottleneck at the switchbacks was topic #1 during our post race meeting. You can be certain that will be fixed.
As much as we're fans of the ski season at Big Sky, we're really excited about spring thaw so we can get back up on the mountain to start mapping out year 2's courses.
Jesse, let Jimmy know he's invited to the race too. (maybe suggest shutting the office down for the weekend and the whole DR crew can enjoy the racing...that should go over well.) Joe

Here is a note from Jaimie at Big Sky concerning the Shane Watts classes:
Shane Watts will be conducting his Dirtwise school Aug 19th and 20th, Thursday and Friday right before the Big Sky XC this year. Registration is limited to 20 riders and will be held at Big Sky Resort on terrain similar to what you will find on the race course. Please go to their website to download the registration form and learn more about his schools.

I was going to mention Shane's Dirt Wise class to you, but I heard he got hurt again pretty bad so I wasn't sure if he's still able to hold all the schools.
I took his class in '08 and have to say it was money well spent. I had a blast, but found out I wasn't half the rider I thought I was. Just watching Shane ride the practice demos is worth thr money. It's always a thrill watching a master at his craft!

Not sure about that. Spoke w/ his assistant this morning and still have green light. They've already started getting registrations. He's excited about lining up to race on Sunday too. The plan is also to have Mr. Watts help w/ the youth awards ceremony on Saturday night. Should be a lot of fun.
